Blackout Music & Film Festival Features Two Special Screenings of Award Winning Movies:
  • MOVIE SCREENING #1: 3 1/2 Minutes, Ten Bullets
  • MOVIE SCREENING #2: Dear White People
ARTIST SHOWCASE: Throughout Blackout Festival, the GRAMMY Museum’s Target Terrace will be home to the Festival’s art showcase that celebrates the captivating work of diverse artists across the country. 
  • The artist showcase includes work from Adrian Franks, Hank Willis Thomas, Synthia Saint James, Bayeté Ross Smith, Damon Davis, Shikeith, Mariella Angela, Nikkolos Mohammad, Viewing of Smithsonian Museum photography book “Through the African American Lens,” and spoken word by Leo Breckenridge
#SAYHERNAME VOICES FOR THE CAUSE MUSIC SHOWCASE: With a soul-inspiring musical lineup showcasing recognizable musicians at the forefront of the social justice movement and leading conversations on vital issues, the music showcase will be a platform to celebrate these exceptional artists and create an unforgettable experience for Festival goers.

Throughout the day, there will be three featured panels covering a wide variety of topics from the importance of diversity in media to solutions for America’s criminal justice system:
  • SOCIAL JUSTICE PANEL: Dedicated to exploring solutions for social justice and the intersection of storytelling/art and activism, the panel features a variety of activists, artists and scholars. Panelists include Patrisse Cullors, Peter Bibring, Ashley Yates, Rahiel Tesfamariam and more. Moderated by UCLA Professor Dr. Marcus Hunter
  • FEATURED STORYTELLING PANEL: Centered on the potent power of storytelling and the importance of diversity in media, the second panel of the day will feature an exciting collection of award winning filmmakers, film/TV talent and entertainment executives. Panelists include Tracee Ellis Ross, Franklin Leonard, Kevin Frazier, Mo McRae and more. Moderated by Indiewire Editor-In-Chief Dana Harris
  • FEATURED MUSIC PANEL: Following the Music Showcase, a panel featuring music executives and artists will discuss the active role music is playing in the current Civil Rights Movement and music’s impact on shaping perception. Panelists include Datwon Thomas, PJ, V Bozeman and more. Moderated by ASCAP Associate Director Mir Harris
